hip Joint Replacement Surgery
Joint replacement is a surgical procedure in which an orthopaedic surgeon replaces damaged or diseased joints and replaces them with a metal, plastic, or ceramic joint, also called a prosthetic joint or prosthesis.
There are different kinds of joints in the body, and the prosthesis will act in the same way as a natural joint. Hips are ball and socket joints, in which the rounded end of one bone fits into the hollow area of the other bone.
Types of Hip Joint Replacement Surgery available
- Total hip replacement – also called hip arthroplasty
- Partial hip replacement
- Hip resurfacing – also called hip resurfacing arthroplasty
- Hip arthroscopy – a minimally invasive procedure that uses an arthroscope (a flexible tube with a camera connected to a video monitor) to help diagnose and treat hip conditions
- Soft tissue hip reconstruction
